Professional Biography Mr. Thorpe has mediated more than 1000 cases in at least 15 states: class action, MDL, and other multi-party cases; toxic torts; CERCLA and other hazardous waste; Clean Water Act; Clean Air Act; high profile community dispute surrounding a homeless shelter; a city/county dispute concerning delivery of services and related tax equity issues; nuisance/trespass (water, air, noise, blasting, etc.); zoning and land use; construction run-off cases; a water rights permit dispute; and a number of cases involving governments in the role of enforcement agency, permit issuer, and private party to tort and contract claims. As a result of his many cases involving governments, Mr. Thorpe has developed an understanding of some of the unique issues involved in resolving cases with government agencies, elected officials, senior government managers, and government lawyers. Mr. Thorpe recently concluded a term as Chair of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution, he has served in a number of leadership roles related to national and state ADR policy over the past 15 years or more (including drafting committee for Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators), and he has taught Dispute Resolution courses in the law schools at both the University of Georgia and Georgia State University.
