Professional Biography At IEN since 1997, Tanya Denckla Cobb has served as Director of the UVA Institute for Engagement & Negotiation (IEN) since 2015. She became one of the first Virginia-certified mediators in 1993, and has deep experience in mediating and facilitating challenging issues, drawing on her work in international labor rights, community mediation, and as a former nonprofit director. She has facilitated and mediated significant issues that support resilient and equitable communities including coastal resilience, sustainable agriculture, food systems, forestry, watersheds, public health, transportation, Section 106, and environmental justice. She has worked for the federal government in international labor rights, authored a reference book on organic gardening, and served as Executive Director of two nonprofit organizations concerned with urban and community forestry. She co-founded the Virginia Natural Resources Leadership Institute in 1999 and serves as both Faculty Director and teaching faculty.
