Professional Biography Put my over 40 years of environmental experience to work for you. I'm a forester-turned-attorney, with mediation and facilitation skills. I've worked on just about every environmental subject — air, water, waste, energy, NEPA, wetlands, pesticides — but my greatest depth is in lands, forests, and biodiversity. As a lawyer, I’ve worked for the Environmental Law Institute and the US House of Representatives, but since 1992 I've worked as an independent environmental policy consultant. I have facilitated workshops and discussion groups, taught, chaired standard-setting committees, prepared conflict assessments, designed dispute resolution systems, and helped people develop new legislation. I've done pioneering work on governance assessment — helping diverse stakeholders come to consensus on what's wrong and what needs attention to improve natural resource governance. I'm based in the DC area, with one foot in the Pacific Northwest -- a Virginia-certified mediator, a member of the DC Court of Appeals appellate mediation roster, and a member of the Oregon Bar. Besides work in the United States, I have a fair amount of international and cross-cultural experience. I've worked in Asia, Europe, and Africa. My style is facilitative. My hallmarks are patience and a sense of humor. I work well with all sorts of people, from lawyers and engineers to ordinary citizens. I enjoy leading productive meetings and helping groups discover new approaches to solve their conflicts. Please let me help you!
