Professional Biography I spent ten years at ACCORD Associates in Boulder, Colorado working on complex environmental cases (agricultural lands to nuclear energy, water supply to air quality) with multiple stakeholders in diverse venues across the United States.  I enjoyed adapting process tools from my graduate work in conflict resolution and future studies and from related professional fields to a specific environmental case.In Washington, D.C. I worked as a private consultant and as the founding director of the Program for Community Problem Solving, a consortium of five national associations that promoted an understanding and the use of procedures for addressing community issues.I continue to consult with national and regional organizations on complex public issues both as a mediator/facilitator and as a "shadow" consultant from my California base.  Beyond case work, I have reflected on the work of this field for the purpose of developing and offering training programs and  documenting strategies and lessons for publication including the book, Managing Public Disputes.  I enjoy working with stakeholders to design and run a process for addressing a controversial issue, helping organizations and communities shift to more collaborative ways of conducting business and training others to use the skills of mediation and collaboration.
