Professional Biography I am often retained by state or federal environmental and regulatory agencies to help conceptualize and design stakeholder processes intended to build consensus around a policy or resolve existing conflicts.  This involves conducting conflict assessment, interviewing potential stakeholders, and designing a work plan and process for the group.  While facilitating the case or group I perform traditional mediation roles of meeting privately with parties, drafting documents for the group's review, and building consensus through group dialogue.  While I always bear in mind that the group's purpose is to take and implement common action, it also my experience that deep and useful insights are also gained when participants are encouraged to share their "world view" or perspective on the issues under consideration.  The opportunities for recognition and empowerment which such dialogue can produce, as well as relationships which allow collaborative action in the future, are sometimes of equal value to the concrete "product."
