Professional Biography I began consensus building in environmental disputes over 30 years ago.I am a lawyer but do only neutral work -- providing mediation, facilitation, arbitration, special mastering, case evaluation, system design, and training.  I have been a sole practitioner for nearly 10 years.My practice covers most major types of conflict, including commercial, construction, employment, environment, family-owned and other closely held business, intellectual property, organizatinal, personal injury, public policy, real estate, site selection, and transportation.In the environmental area, I have mediated or facilitated disputes involving two to six parties, as well as large advisory committees dealing with public policy issues concerning transportation infrastructure, Superfund site cleanup, or proposed waterfront development.I have also assisted organizations in developing a consensus approach to matters of mutual importance, including a consortium of environmental groups creating a common strategy, and the five New England Secretaries of Transportation developing a common approach to regional transportation planning.In all these matters, I draw on my experience in both public and private sectors.  My style is a blend of facilitative and evaluative.  I help the parties understand each other's fundamental concerns, develop options to meet those concerns, establish criteria and priorities to narrow choices, and engage in negotiation designed to lead toward consensus.
