Professional Biography Conflict prevention and dispute resolution are based on people’s ability to communicate clearly, assess conditions and create agreeable outcomes.  I have successfully used these principles for over 20 years to assist parties avoid conflicts and resolve disagreements.  As a Forest Service employee, I was directly responsible for helping parties understand and resolve complex multi-party disputes throughout the Eastern United States.  These disagreements involved political, social and technical issues with a wide variety of projects including mineral development, ski area expansions, endangered species listing, watershed restoration, license renewals and access.   I have worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Fish and Wildlife Service, Army Corp of Engineers, Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, numerous state agencies, non-government organizations and private interests.   I understand well their regulations, procedures, and cultures.  I also designed and implemented the Forest Service’s dispute resolution process to negotiate nearly 30 disputes affecting 8 national forests.  As a private consultant, I have facilitated multi-party meetings for the Wisconsin DNR and public meetings for the US Forest Service.  I use my experience and training to aid parties identify relevant information, articulate critical issues, understand constraints and create options so they can better define objectives and resolve differences.
