Position or Title Facilitator

Professional Biography My interest in facilitation and mediation is to foster informed decision-making.  My practice is to engage stakeholders in joint fact-finding to: identify and evaluate existing information; define data gaps; prioritize additional data needs and apply available information to the task at hand. For complex cases, I use a charter to outline the scope of the effort and participants' roles and responsibilities.  Other related materials include:  a structure diagram (illustrating role integration); process diagram; and project timeline.  These materials help provide direction for all involved and can be modified to accommodate new circumstances.  In decision-making, I encourage stakeholders to rate their level of support for each proposal and to provide suggestions for improvement.  Where stakeholder committees are advisory, I clarify where the authority and responsibility for final decisions rest.  For processes where stakeholders implement final decisions, I assure that all other relevant efforts are represented in discussions.I also ask stakeholders to help develop a communications plan, addressing: participants' responsibilities for keeping their constituencies informed; guidelines for information exchange and use of draft materials; strategies for providing public updates; and best practices for discussing the process with others.  This provides a consistent communication framework for the entire process.
