Position or Title Principle Planner

Professional Biography Heather Szapary, LLC is a New Orleans-based, woman-owned, planning firm that has specialized in sustainable practices since 2003. The firm focuses equally on social, economic, environmental and education issues, and consistently provides meeting facilitation services to architects, engineers, government agencies and non-profit organizations. The firm is attracted to projects that demand conflict resolution and consensus building techniques. In 2008, the firm was contracted to facilitate 7 public meetings for St. Bernard Parish participants of a U.S. EPA effort to reduce pollution problems in the areas of air quality, water quality and land use. The first task was to seek agreement among all stakeholders (citizens, businesses, state environmental agencies) on what the main pollution problems were and how to prioritize addressing each problem. The firm also facilitates planning processes for the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation regarding land use and environmental issues. As Principle Planner and member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Heather Szapary is skilled in meeting facilitation, land use planning, citizen participation, open space planning, environmental program creation, management and implementation, strategic visioning, technical writing and public outreach services. Ms. Szapary has 15 years of professional experience working on projects that reconnect people to their communities and improve their quality of life.
