Professional Biography Since 1982 I have combined technical knowledge of environmental science and ecology, legal, planning and regulatory work experience with consensus building ability to surface issues, mediate conflicts, facilitate discussion and help contradictory groups clarify and consolidate their thinking. Much of this work has been in the context of a beginning or ongoing environmental planning or regulatory process, such as that required by NEPA. More recently, I have facilitated and coordinated the work of agency science advisory teams on a number of technical environmental questions that help inform agency planning. Every group involved in NEPA must complete certain steps-- I am usually called in when those steps are complicated by outside factors, multiple issues, politics or multiple agency involvement. Even when all of these factors are at work, I find there are common goals and places where even conflicting mandates intersect. Reminding the teams of these common areas helps us to stay focused and move forward. In addition to developing common goals and purpose, I am most experienced in helping teams to see issues that stand in the way, alternatives to resolve them, data gaps and guide them in selecting a preferred approach after all of the data are analyzed and summarized.
