Position or Title Attorney-Planner-Mediator

Professional Biography Ed Johnson specializes in collaborative problem-solving, facilitation, and mediation of disputes involving public policy, land use, environmental, and community issues. Prior to receiving his law degree, he worked in these areas as a professional planner and local government official for 22 years. Now an attorney with education and experience in law, land use planning, engineering, conflict management, and peacemaking, Ed brings a unique multi-disciplinary, public/private perspective to dispute resolution. Ed also provides consulting services for the development of conflict management programs for court-connected alternative dispute resolution, community based mediation, and victim-offender reconciliation.Ed utilizes a holistic approach to dispute resolution, applying various techniques and strategies as appropriate to the dispute. For public policy and organizational issues, Ed favors a collaborative approach where all stakeholders are involved in authentic, respectful dialogue, joint fact-finding and joint decision-making. For more focused or interpersonal issues, Ed approaches resolution as a facilitator employing a range of styles from transformative to evaluative to conflict coaching, depending on the needs of the parties. While most of Ed’s education and experience has been obtained in California, his knowledge and skills are applicable generally, and he is available for assignments nationwide.
