Professional Biography Derek Van Marter offers fifteen years of domestic and international experience in public involvement and impartial facilitation in natural resources, environmental management and public policy. As the Associate Director at the Upper Columbia Salmon Recovery Board, he works as an impartial mediator/facilitator on a variety of issues related to implementation of a federal salmon and steelhead recovery plan. He is available for third-party neutral work outside of his current duties.He also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Niger, West Africa from 1995-1998. Working in a natural resource management program, he facilitated community projects in natural resources, soil restoration, watershed management, health/nutrition and sanitation. As the team coordinator, he facilitated interaction between Niger Government officials and rural communities on various topics, and participated in implementing a new community-based training model that Peace Corps Niger has since adopted.
