Position or Title Senior Consultant
Professional Biography Cherie Shanteau-Wheeler has more than 25 years of experience mediating complex conflicts and facilitating collaborative multi-party processes inside and outside of agencies and organizations. She has designed training programs and trained hundreds of people to use these skills as well. She naturally gravitated to this work when she discovered that the most enjoyable and challenging part of being an attorney was helping conflicting clients and parties find creative solutions that met their needs. Cherie spent more than 17 years in private practice as an attorney mediator and also as an in-house Dispute Resolution Manager for a Fortune 500 company subsidiary. She successfully mediated numerous litigated and non-litigated matters, represented clients in mediation, and facilitated several large public processes, including Utah BLM Wilderness designation and complex watershed and riparian management issues. In 2001, Cherie joined the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution as a Senior Mediator/Senior Program Manager and then as its Director of Programs. In these roles, she convened, managed and provided consultation, collaboration, conflict resolution services and training inside and outside her agency and for numerous other federal agencies, tribes and stakeholders. Through working in such diverse settings, and now at Triangle, Cherie has developed a wide range of tools to assist governing bodies, stakeholders and tribes problem-solve more effectively together.
