Position or Title Senior Mediator
Professional Biography Conflict in the public policy arena is inevitable. We live in a highly diverse society where varied interests clash over different policy approaches. How we choose to resolve our disputes is key. When stepping into new projects, I work closely with clients and the affected parties to gauge the issues and determine the best approach for building agreement. For example: Are the parties needing to reach full consensus, or is it sufficient to build broad support? Does agreement need to be made around a single alternative, or is it preferable to craft a range of options to be considered by high-level decision makers? What are the strategies for making agreements binding? In my work, I am committed to designing and executing collaborative approaches that build agreement around sustainable solutions to controversial public policy disputes. My recent work has focused on marine resources, offshore wind, coastal resilience planning, and a range of environmental issues, but my strong public policy training has prepared me to take on a wide array of topics. I enjoy teaming with others in my work, and I strive to manage dialogues in a manner that is both fair and focused and puts a premium on pre-meeting preparation and strategic planning. I’ve lived and worked in many places – New York and Alaska, Asia and California – and I’ve frequently been in the role of building cross-cultural consensus. I enjoy taking on writing assignments associated with my projects.
