Professional Biography Facilitation works by establishing an environment where dialog and knowledge can be shared. By providing structure and guidance, participants can organically develop creative solutions to complex issues. When successful, participants “own” the result. While such ownership is often codified in agreement or contract form, it is the process of getting there (building trust) which allows initiatives to succeed well past the end of formal facilitation. My consulting practice began in 1987. I have led development of collaboratives that resulted in "first ever" K-12 educational technology initiatives, developed strategic plans, provided management consulting, built web sites and complex relational data bases, published newsletters and produced videos, and conducted activity based cost analysis. Facilitation is a valued part of my business activities, but not all of my business. I consider this a distinct advantage because my broad experiences help give me a balanced perspective, allowing me to more effectively relate to the feelings, needs and considerations of facilitation participants. I believe in the adage "Successful meetings are 80 percent preparation and 20 percent execution." My experience and experiences help maximize my effectiveness in acting as a neutral facilitator and/or consensus builder.
